VOLTAGE REGULATOR 7805

VOLTAGE REGULATOR 7805:

Voltage sources in a circuit may have fluctuations resulting in not giving fixed voltage outputs. Voltage regulator IC maintains the output voltage at a constant value. We used 7805 voltage regulator in which 78 means regulator model and 05 means output voltage. The voltage source in a circuit may have fluctuations and would not give the fixed voltage output. This voltage regulator circuit maintains the output voltage at a constant value. This circuit provides +5v regulated power supply.

Pin description:

1. Input voltage (5v to 20v)

2. Ground

3. Regulated output (5v)

 The 7805 voltage regulator gives 5 volt constant output to the output terminal. It require minimum 7 volt to give constant 5 volt supply. Greater is the input voltage greater is the heat dissipation. If heat sink is not attested to the regulator than it can be destroy because of extra heat generated. Input voltage range is specified in the data sheet of the 7805 voltage regulator. It can withstand wide range of voltage ranging from 7 volt to 20 volt and rated input current between 5 mA to 1 A.
